[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Professor Lee Jin-woo of Yonsei University College of Medicine (Orthopedic Surgery, Vice President of Yonsei University International Campus) has been elected as the 25th President of the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences. His term will be three years starting from January 2024.
The new president presented his goals for the term as ▲reorganizing core tasks ▲forming a consultative body for member societies' participation ▲securing stable finances and discovering new projects ▲developing evidence-based academic policies ▲expanding social communication ▲integrating the secretariat and strengthening staff capabilities.
President Lee previously served as Director of External Cooperation at Yonsei Medical Center, Deputy Director of Research and Deputy Director of Clinical Affairs at Severance Hospital, and was appointed Vice President of Yonsei University International Campus last year.
President Lee stated, "Based on the strengths accumulated by the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences, I will strive to fulfill its role as Korea’s leading medical academic council together with member societies and to lead the advancement of medicine."
Founded in 1966 as the Council of Subspecialty Societies, the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences is the leading medical organization in Korea with 194 member societies.
