Lotte Construction Begins R&D to Improve Remodeling Construction Quality

[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Lotte Construction announced on the 20th that it has begun research and development of specialized technologies to improve construction quality and safety in order to secure differentiated competitiveness in the remodeling market. To this end, it is accelerating the development of various technologies such as ‘3D Scan Reverse Engineering,’ ‘Smart Measurement through Big Data Analysis,’ and ‘Impact Load Analysis System.’

The first technology, ‘3D Scan Reverse Engineering,’ is a technology that uses 3D scanners and BIM technology to realistically replicate the shapes of existing structures and ground, and applies this to remodeling. It allows for accurate identification of the positions and sizes of structural members such as walls and columns in existing buildings, which can be reflected in remodeling design and construction plans. Additionally, it can be used to assess the extent of damage to aged or damaged members in existing buildings and to establish repair and reinforcement plans.

Secondly, ‘Smart Measurement through Big Data Analysis’ monitors in real time the loads occurring on major structures during remodeling construction and sends alerts to managers in case of dangerous situations. Ultimately, the building’s load is supported by foundation piles. It measures the loads on existing piles and additional piles installed for remodeling, and confirms structural safety through step-by-step data analysis.

The third technology, the ‘Impact Load Analysis System,’ evaluates the risks of impact loads on structures during remodeling construction and proposes solutions to prevent accidents. It reviews safety against impact loads such as debris falling during construction and assesses the possibility of chain accidents caused by localized structural damage. If the likelihood of accidents is high, it suggests various measures to ensure safety. In particular, it provides specific demolition and dismantling processes and temporary structural reinforcement plans to control structural damage, supporting safe remodeling construction.

Lotte Construction is conducting demonstration experiments at the Ichon Hyundai remodeling project site to develop these specialized remodeling technologies and plans to file patents for various related technologies. A Lotte Construction official stated, “We plan to establish a step-by-step technical support process from design to construction and maintenance in remodeling projects to secure unrivaled competitiveness in the remodeling business.”
