Geumcheon-gu Provides 50,000 KRW Holiday Consolation Fund to Low-Income Residents

Additional 20,000 KRW Holiday Consolation Payment, Totaling 50,000 KRW, Provided to Basic Livelihood Security Recipients (Living and Medical Support) Households

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that starting this year, the holiday consolation payment for basic livelihood security recipients (living and medical support) households has been increased from the previous 30,000 KRW to 50,000 KRW.

Geumcheon-gu completed the distribution of Lunar New Year holiday consolation payments to 7,669 households by January 16.

Previously, 30,000 KRW was provided from city funds each for Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, but starting this year, an additional 20,000 KRW from district funds has been added, supporting 50,000 KRW per household.

Geumcheon-gu actively reviewed the demand to reflect inflation rates in the holiday consolation payments and allocated a budget of 348 million KRW last year for 'Additional Holiday Consolation Support.'

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “As we celebrate the nation’s biggest holiday, Lunar New Year, we hope this helps reduce the financial burden on low-income residents and contributes to creating a happy holiday atmosphere.”

Jongno 1,2,3,4-ga Dong Provides Total 60,000 KRW Holiday Consolation Payment... Targeting 863 Households Including Basic Livelihood Recipients, Near-Poverty Class, and Single-Parent Families

Sungin 2-dong Delivers ‘Blessing Sharing Packages’ Composed of Rice Cake Soup Rice and Korean Beef to 200 Low-Income Households

Jongno-gu (Mayor Jeong Mun-heon) is making various efforts to convey neighborly love to low-income residents and help them enjoy a joyful holiday during the Lunar New Year.

First, in Jongno 1, 2, 3, and 4-ga dong, additional holiday consolation payments were independently provided to offer practical assistance. This aims to ease the economic burden of preparing ancestral rites tables amid high interest rates and inflation.

Accordingly, an additional 30,000 KRW was added to the 30,000 KRW holiday support payment that Seoul City has been providing since 2007 to basic livelihood recipients and others, resulting in a total of 60,000 KRW per household. The beneficiaries include a total of 863 households belonging to the near-poverty class, single-parent families, and others.

To support this, donations collected for helping neighbors were used, and in addition to financial aid, meticulous care was shown by delivering various daily necessities. For example, residents living in small rooms and goshiwon (cheap dormitories) received agricultural and marine products along with various groceries and useful daily items.

Additionally, Sungin 2-dong, under the leadership of the local community security council, delivered ‘Blessing Sharing Packages’ consisting of rice cake soup rice, Korean beef, and ox bone soup to 200 low-income households from the 17th to the 20th, receiving positive responses.

Park Gyeong-ju, head of Jongno 1,2,3,4-ga dong, said, “We are striving to thoroughly find and assist residents who applied for welfare programs but were not selected or who did not even apply due to lack of information. We will continue to devote ourselves to discovering and supporting vulnerable households and creating a warm village community.”
