Gijang-gun Supports Artificial Joint and Cataract Surgery Costs for Vulnerable Elderly

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Gijang-gun is conducting a project to support surgery costs for knee artificial joints and cataracts for vulnerable elderly people.

The eligible recipients are low-income individuals aged 60 or older, including those receiving medical aid, type 2, basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, and single-parent families (grandparent-grandchild families).

For knee artificial joints, support is provided for examination fees, medical fees, and surgery fees up to a maximum of 1.2 million KRW of the patient's own burden for one knee.

For ophthalmic surgeries such as cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal diseases, full support is provided for examination fees, medical fees, and surgery fees (non-covered surgeries are not supported) corresponding to the patient's own burden per person.

To apply, the applicant or a proxy must visit the public health center with an ID card, diagnosis (opinion) documents, etc. The Elderly Medical Sharing Foundation and the Blindness Prevention Foundation will review and decide on the eligibility and notify the applicant.

The surgery must be performed within three months after notification, and the application must be submitted before the surgery to receive support.

A Gijang-gun official said, “We will actively support discovering more projects for elderly people who are easily marginalized in society so that residents can benefit.”

The project is being promoted together with the Elderly Medical Sharing Foundation and the Blindness Prevention Foundation for elderly people who cannot receive treatment due to economic burdens.
