Police Chief: "Must Devote to Public Safety... Self-Satisfaction Is Never Acceptable"

[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, said on the 19th, "I hope you will devote yourselves solely to the safety of the people."

In a letter posted on the internal network that day, Commissioner Yoon stated, "We must never be satisfied with ourselves as the police." He emphasized, "We must not forget that this is the interest and investment of the people who wish for a safer Republic of Korea, and it is the 'duty' of the police to repay the people with 'competence.'"

Commissioner Yoon mentioned the introduction of basic salary increases to the level of public security officers, a long-standing wish of the police last year, saying, "We must not forget that behind these results lies the trust and support of the people for the police." He added, "It contains the earnest hope and desire of the people and the government to dedicate themselves to public safety and the establishment of law and order."

The letter that day was a holiday greeting and a request from Commissioner Yoon to police officers ahead of the Lunar New Year. He said, "Although it is a rare holiday, our police stations never turn off the lights 365 days a year, 24 hours a day," adding, "Because holidays cannot be allowed in the mission to protect the safety of the people." At the end of the letter, Commissioner Yoon wrote a New Year's greeting along with a wish for "health and safety."
