[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Yonsei University College of Medicine Yongin Severance Hospital announced on the 19th that it has achieved 500 cases of breast cancer surgery. This milestone was reached 2 years and 8 months after performing its first breast cancer surgery following its opening in March 2020.
Breast cancer surgery is broadly classified into breast-conserving partial mastectomy and total mastectomy. Recent mastectomy procedures preserve the nipple while performing total mastectomy and simultaneous reconstruction, minimizing the sense of loss by considering not only oncological treatment but also the patient's aesthetic aspects.
Yongin Severance Hospital strives for high-quality treatment through collaboration between the breast surgery and plastic surgery departments via the Breast Cancer Clinic. Since its opening, the hospital has been performing surgeries using the Da Vinci robot to minimize scarring, increasing satisfaction among young breast cancer patients.
Professor Lee Joon-sang of the Breast Surgery Department said, "Yongin Severance Hospital has achieved rapid growth, reaching 500 breast cancer surgeries in less than three years since its opening. We will continue to uphold Severance's tradition and devote ourselves to clinical care and research to provide the best treatment to more patients."
