Na Kyung-won vs Hong Joon-pyo Full-scale Conflict... "Take Responsibility" vs "Can't Stand Hypocrisy"

Na Helps Park Jong-hee "Hong Jun-pyo is a traitor"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] A full-scale confrontation has erupted between Hong Joon-pyo, Governor of Daegu, who has continued sharp criticism of former lawmaker Na Kyung-won, and Na's side. Na's side called Governor Hong a 'gansin' (traitor) and took a strong stance demanding he take responsibility for his social media (SNS) remarks, while Governor Hong hinted through SNS that he will continue his criticism, saying, "I can no longer tolerate greed and hypocrisy."

On the 19th, Na's side stated in a press release, "We deeply regret the ruthless attacks extending even to family," and added, "Governor Hong must clearly take responsibility for his remarks."

They pointed out that Governor Hong's SNS comment the previous day, "If a couple's harmony (buchang busu, 夫唱婦隨) is not in a good sense but solely driven by ambition for advancement, that is truly problematic," targeting Na and her husband, was a 'false claim.' Although Governor Hong did not directly name Na and her husband, recent political circles have been speculating about Kim Jae-ho, Na's husband and a presiding judge, being appointed as a Supreme Court justice, making it easy to infer the reference.

Park Jong-hee, a former lawmaker and close aide to Na, also appeared on KBS's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs' on the same day, expressing suspicion about how information from the public official verification process reached Governor Hong's ears, regarding Hong's SNS call for Na to clarify the 'building speculation issue,' and referred to Governor Hong as a 'gansin.'

Former lawmaker Park said, "It seems to be about the process of buying and selling a commercial building in Sindang-dong, but after deducting costs like acquisition and registration taxes and capital gains tax, there was a profit of 16 million won. Can this be called speculation?" He added, "There are rumors about using a secret contract or taking excessive loans, but those who keep creating such baseless slanders (black propaganda) are exactly the gansin."

Despite Na's side's strong response, Governor Hong maintained his position that "my path is right." On the same day, Governor Hong said on SNS, "For the creation of a conservative government and the stability of the new regime, I have not shown my feelings until now, but seeing some silver spoon-born individuals again trying to build their positions through hypocrisy and internal shaking, I could no longer tolerate their greed and hypocrisy," adding, "I find it difficult to discuss politics with them any longer, so I recently expressed my thoughts without reservation."

Claiming to be from a 'dirt spoon' background himself, he said, "Those who have everything become more greedy, and those born with silver spoons manipulate the world with false dignity and hypocrisy, which I can no longer tolerate," and added, "I cannot pretend to like what I dislike, so although politics is hard, I still believe my path is right."

Governor Hong has recently been persistently criticizing Na through SNS. Besides the 'buchang busu' and 'building speculation' remarks, on the 17th he said, "I really hate the hypocrisy of silver spoon-born people who commit all sorts of corruption while pretending to have dignity alone," and on the 13th, upon seeing that Na did not resign as climate ambassador, he criticized, "The climate ambassador position is a good post for traveling abroad, so she is staying as is."
