Completion by the end of 2025, including in-depth analysis service on residents' health
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, will begin construction of the ‘Resource Circulation Facility Modernization Project’ within this month.
On the 18th, the city announced the implementation of a project to address the aging of the resource circulation facility located at 35 Bugok-ro and the insufficient processing capacity by installing one new incineration facility at the current site and performing major repairs on the existing one.
Through this, the city plans to secure a processing capacity of 300 tons per day and install a complex sports center as a facility for residents' convenience.
The city is currently finalizing various administrative procedures and detailed designs, and after obtaining approval for changes to the waste treatment facility installation plan this month, construction will begin with an expected completion by the end of 2025.

According to the city, combustible household waste generated daily in the Gimhae area exceeds 200 tons.
Currently, about 30% of this waste is not processed directly but is either piled up in landfills or treated on a metropolitan scale in nearby Busan City.
A city official stated, “The amount of accumulated waste continues to increase,” and added, “The modernization project for the stable processing of combustible household waste is urgent, so we plan to accelerate construction after groundbreaking.”
Once the resource circulation facility modernization project is completed, the city plans to continue various support projects, including increasing the resident support fund from the current 800 million KRW annually to 1.4 billion KRW.
Lee Chikyun, Director of the Resource Circulation Division, said, “We will actively communicate with residents while promoting the project and, in accordance with promises made to residents around the facility, continue conducting in-depth health analyses for residents in the surrounding impact area to strengthen health management and alleviate concerns,” adding, “In the future, the Jangyu area will become an even better place to live.”
