[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Today's ten-thousand-step course is the Tancheon-Yangjaecheon trail. It is designed to fully enjoy both Tancheon and Yangjaecheon, riverside paths developed as pleasant walking spots in the Gangnam and Seocho districts. Bicycle paths and walking trails are well established along the streams, and the elevation changes are minimal, making it easy to walk.
The starting point is Suseo Station on Line 3 and the Bundang Line. Exiting from Exit 3 or 4 of Suseo Station and walking eastward, you can enter the Tancheon walking trail under the Gwangpyeong Bridge. Despite being an urban stream, Tancheon is well known as a place where winter migratory birds visit, offering the joy of birdwatching.
After walking about 4 km while observing migratory birds and various plants, you will reach the turnaround point at the Tancheon-Yangjaecheon Visitor Center. From here, turn westward to start walking along Yangjaecheon. This stream originates from Gwanaksan Mountain in Gwacheon City, Gyeonggi Province, flows through Seocho and Gangnam, and empties into Tancheon.
As its name suggests, Yangjaecheon passes through Yangjae-dong, cutting through the heart of apartment complexes in the Gangnam area. You can walk through forests while admiring tall apartment buildings like Tower Palace. Especially since the local government has developed it as a neighborhood park, there are various attractions such as small wetlands, parks, and local legends explained throughout the area. Wild raccoons live here, and if you're lucky, you might see a raccoon visiting the water's edge to catch fish.
You can also enjoy various cultural experiences. If you're fortunate, you can enjoy cultural events such as concerts prepared by the local government at stages or rest areas set up around the Yangjaecheon waterfront stage near Yeongdong 1 Bridge on Yangjaecheon and other locations.
Today's final destination is Yangjae Citizen's Forest Station. If you feel reluctant to end your walk here, you can head north to enjoy a cup of coffee at the nearby Yangjaecheon Coffee Street, or continue walking to Maehun Citizen's Forest, which was introduced on the 13th and is located right next door.
