Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Achieve Record High Market Share in Europe

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 18th that it achieved the highest market share ever in the European market. Hyundai Motor and Kia's market share in Europe was 9.4%, ranking 4th. Hyundai Motor recorded 4.6%, and Kia recorded 4.8%. These figures represent increases of 0.2% and 0.5% respectively compared to the previous year. The overall market share leader in Europe is Volkswagen with 24.7%. Stellantis followed with 18.2%, and Renault recorded 9.4%.

Sales volume was the second highest ever. Hyundai Motor and Kia sold 1,060,989 units in Europe last year. Hyundai Motor sold 518,566 units, an increase of 0.5% compared to the previous year, and Kia sold 542,423 units, an increase of 7.9% compared to the previous year. The highest sales volume ever was 1,065,227 units in 2019.

The best-selling model within the group was the Kia Sportage, which recorded 140,327 units. The Kia Ceed (135,849 units) and Hyundai Tucson (120,946 units) followed.

Among eco-friendly models including hybrid (HEV) and electric vehicles, the Niro showed the highest sales volume with 83,200 units.
