Gangnam Severance·SR Operate Health Donation Stairs at SRT Suseo Station
10 Won Accumulated per User... Used to Fulfill Wishes of 8 Pediatric Patients

[Harumanbo Harucheonja] "Protect Health and Donate Together by Walking Stairs" Han Eui-yun, who is suffering from peripheral neuropathy, is figure skating on an ice rink while lifting one leg.

Han Eui-yang (12), who suffers from myasthenia gravis, dreams of becoming a figure skater. She wished to perform on stage wearing a figure skating costume she made herself. However, she faced difficulties as she needed long-term treatment and consistent symptom management. Myasthenia gravis is a disease characterized by decreased overall muscle tone, accompanied by feeding and respiratory difficulties, and in some types, facial deformities. In December 2021, Yonsei University Gangnam Severance Hospital granted Han’s wish. They invited her to perform and take figure skating lessons on an ice rink stage. They also supported her with a custom-made figure skating costume. Han said, "I had a wish to try figure skating on a wide ice rink stage, and I am happy and delighted that my wish actually came true."


Since September 2019, Gangnam Severance Hospital and SR Co., Ltd. have installed the ‘Health Donation Staircase with Neighbors’ at SRT Suseo Station, accumulating a certain amount of social contribution funds based on the number of users. Each time one person uses the stairs, both organizations donate 10 won each to the social contribution fund. In the first year, 2020, based on the accumulated donations, they donated a total of 20 million won?10 million won each?to Make-A-Wish Korea. One million citizens walked the stairs, accumulating the donation funds. The donations were used for wish fulfillment projects for four children with incurable diseases, including Han, and so far, for eight children in total. However, the staircase operation was suspended during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the 17th, Gangnam Severance Hospital and SR held the ‘2023 Health Donation Staircase Unveiling Ceremony’ at SRT Suseo Station to announce the resumption of the donation staircase operation. The stairs were also refurbished with a new design, ready to welcome railway passengers, and an exhibition space featuring illustrated stories of children’s wish fulfillments was prepared. The exhibition captured the happy days of children on the day their wishes were fulfilled, such as a child who received a personal computer they wanted and a child who enjoyed a course meal with their family.


Song Young-gu, director of Gangnam Severance Hospital, said, "We will faithfully fulfill the role of a medical institution practicing the spirit of sharing and continue to carry out joint social contribution activities based on strong mutual trust with SR." Lee Jong-guk, CEO of SR, stated, "Gangnam Severance Hospital and SR are creating new services and social contribution models where railways and medical care meet, such as the Suseo Station Health Lounge and the Health Donation Staircase," adding, "We will continue to bring happiness to customers in various fields and lead innovation in railway services."
