[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Regarding former leader Lee Jun-seok's prediction that "the results of the party convention may differ from the expectations of Yoonhaekgwan (key associates of Yoon Seok-yeol)," Hong Moon-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, dismissed it by saying, "The accuracy won't be that high."
On the 18th, Hong said on BBS's 'Jeon Young-shin's Morning Journal,' "Having served as the party secretary-general and overseen the organization, I am aware of the current trends." He previously served as secretary-general during the Liberty Korea Party era.
Political commentator Jang Sung-chul, director of the Public Opinion Center, introduced part of a conversation with former leader Lee on the 17th on CBS's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' reporting that Lee said, "About 400,000 people joined during Lee Jun-seok's leadership," and "If it goes to a runoff vote, the results are likely not to be as Yoonhaekgwan expect." This implies that although the runoff vote was introduced to block former non-Yoon faction lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, it will not be easy.
In response, Hong said, "Due to his (former leader Lee Jun-seok's) influence, those who joined as you mentioned might cause such an upset in a runoff vote or similar situations," but added, "The atmosphere and psychology of the 350,000 to 400,000 party members then differ from when the number grows to 800,000 or 1,000,000. When many people gather, the general consensus, public opinion, and prevailing trend take hold."
In the era of '1 million party members,' general consensus has a greater influence than former leader Lee's impact. He said, "When we had 300,000 to 400,000 delegates, during the party member convention, and now with 800,000 to 1,000,000 members, unpredictable situations like the one you mentioned can occur."
Regarding the emerging 'Anti-Jang (Ban Jangje-won)' coalition among some lawmakers who harbor resentment toward the 'Kim Jang Alliance (Kim Ki-hyun - Jang Je-won),' he said, "There is no specific resentment or movement targeting anyone yet," but added, "Personally, when I receive calls or meet a few people, many express regret about whether this approach was necessary."
Detecting resentment toward the Kim Jang Alliance, lawmaker Kim Ki-hyun has recently been advocating 'Yeonpotang (Alliance, Inclusion, Balance)' to broaden outreach. Hong criticized, "That is a strategic move, but you shouldn't use a known move. You need to use an unknown move so the opponent either gets deceived or acknowledges it. The public already knows that the two are allied, so it is somewhat unoriginal."
