No Social Distancing at Golden Globe 'No Mask' Event

Hollywood stars who attended the Golden Globe Awards in the United States have recently tested positive for COVID-19 one after another, raising alarms during the awards season.

According to the Washington Post (WP) and others on the 16th (local time), Hollywood actors Jamie Lee Curtis, Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Michelle Pfeiffer have all tested positive for COVID-19. They have recently been invited as nominees for lead and supporting roles at major U.S. awards ceremonies. However, due to COVID-19, disruptions have occurred during the awards season, such as their absence from the 'Critics Choice Awards' held the previous day.

Jamie Lee Curtis posted a photo on her Instagram on the 13th showing positive results from three different COVID-19 self-test kits. Curtis was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Critics Choice Awards for the film Everything Everywhere All at Once but was unable to attend, and she also did not appear at the British Academy Film Awards tea party.

Additionally, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, who appeared in the film The Banshees of Inisherin, also tested positive for COVID-19. Both were nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively at the Critics Choice Awards but could not attend the ceremony. Michelle Pfeiffer was scheduled to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Jeff Bridges at the Critics Choice Awards but missed the event due to COVID-19, with actor John Goodman delivering the presentation instead.

Regarding the COVID-19 infections among Hollywood stars, there have been suggestions that the Golden Globe Awards held on the 10th might be the cause. WP noted, "It is difficult to determine exactly where and how they contracted the coronavirus," but pointed out that "the majority of attendees at the Golden Globe Awards did not wear masks and there was no social distancing."

However, it is not known whether the organizers required attendees to provide negative COVID-19 test results before the Golden Globe Awards. The Critics Choice Awards, held afterward, reportedly required attendees to submit negative COVID-19 test certificates.

Meanwhile, actress Jessica Chastain, who wore a mask inside the Golden Globe Awards venue, responded with "Phew!" when a Twitter user posted her photo asking, "Do you know who didn't get COVID-19 at the Golden Globes?" Chastain had previously said on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet, "I was a little nervous about possibly getting sick, but I wear a mask," adding, "I have to be careful inside the theater so as not to disappoint the other cast members."
