‘Najungsun Halmae Jjukkumi’ Donates 400 Bags of Rice Worth Over 10 Million Won to Help Neighbors in Need for Lunar New Year

Three Generations of Sharing Since 2004... This Year Also Donated a Collection Box Filled with Packaging Fees

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that on the morning of the 17th at 9:30 AM, Najungsun Halmae Jjukkumi (CEO Na Seong-ho), representing the local jjukkumi alley, donated 400 bags of rice (10kg each), worth over 10 million won, to help neighbors in need ahead of the Lunar New Year.

The donation ceremony took place in the mayor’s reception room on the 5th floor of the district office, attended by Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung, CEO Na Seong-ho, and his children.

Mrs. Najungsun, known as the “Faceless Angel,” is the founder of Najungsun Halmae Jjukkumi, which represents the Yongdu-dong jjukkumi alley. Najungsun Halmae Jjukkumi has prospered, loved by local residents to the extent of operating a directly managed store in Jegi-dong. Former CEO Najungsun has been steadily donating since 2004 to give back to the community’s love.

Since last year, former CEO Najungsun has been unable to attend donation ceremonies due to health reasons, but her intentions are being carried on by her child, CEO Na Seong-ho, and granddaughter.

Additionally, this donation was made warmer by including a collection box filled with packaging fees collected when packing jjukkumi, along with the white rice.

Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, “I deeply thank former CEO Najungsun, CEO Na Seong-ho, and the granddaughter who will continue this spirit, for practicing sharing every Lunar New Year without fail since 2004. We hope for former CEO Najungsun’s speedy recovery so she can join us next year, and we will ensure the donated rice is delivered promptly to those in need.”

Since 2004, former CEO Najungsun has quietly left 200 bags of rice each New Year at Dongdaemun District Office or local community centers. In 2013, her act of leaving rice was discovered by staff, bringing her good deeds to public attention.
