On the 17th, Mayor Hong said through his social networking service (SNS), "Banners are put up with false achievements that one did not accomplish or with routine Lunar New Year greetings, causing the whole country to suffer from banner overload."

He stated, "I do not yet have any achievements to boast about, nor any clear accomplishments to promote," and announced that he would not put up banners. He added, "The biggest reason is that we must not waste citizens' tax money carelessly," and said, "After the Lunar New Year, these false and showy banners only harm the city's aesthetics, so they will be removed immediately."
