'Priority on Preventing Various Disasters, Accidents, and Emergencies' Focused Preparedness in 7 Key Areas
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has prepared a comprehensive plan focusing on ‘Safety First’ during the Lunar New Year holiday period, emphasizing the prevention of various disasters, accidents, and minimizing inconvenience to residents.
The county plans to operate a comprehensive situation room staffed by 96 personnel for four days from the start of the holiday on the 21st to the 24th, to promptly respond to emergencies such as preventing the spread of COVID-19 and resolving residents’ inconveniences.
Accordingly, the county explained that it has established detailed measures in seven areas: ▲thorough prevention of various disasters, accidents, and COVID-19 quarantine ▲development of safe and convenient traffic communication measures ▲promotion of price stabilization and protection of low-income residents’ livelihoods ▲resolution of residents’ inconveniences and improvement of living convenience ▲establishment of emergency medical treatment and quarantine activity plans ▲creation of a warm sharing atmosphere during the holiday ▲strict establishment of public service discipline.
First, the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for COVID-19 response and the permanent screening clinics will operate to maintain an impeccable quarantine posture even during the holiday period. To ensure a safe Lunar New Year holiday, safety inspections will be conducted on disaster-vulnerable facilities such as transportation facilities, as well as special safety inspections on gas and electrical facilities.
Considering the frequent occurrence of forest fires caused by arson by visitors such as those paying respects at ancestral graves and illegal burning of agricultural and marine products during the holiday period, pre-inspections of forest fire prevention facilities and firefighting equipment will be conducted, and strict crackdowns on burning activities near forest-adjacent areas will be enforced with administrative power focused on patrol activities.
Additionally, traffic convenience measures will be prepared for visitors returning to their hometowns, and a comprehensive price countermeasures situation room will be operated to revitalize the local economy and stabilize prices. Adjustments to waste collection days during the Lunar New Year holiday, operation of special mobile teams, and special waste collection in urban areas will create a pleasant street environment. Emergency duty will be initiated to prepare for accidents involving water supply facilities such as water leakage and water meter freezing, thereby enhancing living convenience.
Emergency medical treatment measures will be established to operate emergency medical services centered on emergency medical institutions, minimizing health protection gaps and inconveniences for residents through the operation of open medical institutions and pharmacies.
To prevent the spread of livestock infectious diseases, the quarantine countermeasures situation room will operate to promptly receive reports of suspected livestock diseases and take swift initial quarantine measures upon occurrence, striving to keep Changnyeong free from livestock infectious diseases.
Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, the county is visiting and supporting low-income vulnerable groups who are easily overlooked, encouraging social welfare facilities and struggling residents, spreading a warm sharing atmosphere with neighbors during the holiday.
At the recent executive meeting, Acting County Governor Cho Hyun-hong ordered, “Please establish strict public service discipline to prevent complacency and corruption among public officials taking advantage of the transition to the acting authority system and the holiday atmosphere.”
Meanwhile, to resolve residents’ inconveniences, the county has distributed a comprehensive Lunar New Year holiday guidebook containing various notices closely related to residents’ daily lives such as hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, gas companies, and automobile repair shops operating during the holiday, as well as policies changing from 2023, to the Civil Service Department of the county office, town and township offices, and village senior centers. The guidebook is also posted on the county office website to allow residents easier access to information.
