[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will provide eco-friendly agricultural product packages worth 480,000 KRW annually to 20,000 pregnant women in the province this year.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 17th that it has secured 2.3 billion KRW of provincial funds independently, separate from national projects, to support 20,000 people through the "Gyeonggi Pregnant Women Eco-Friendly Agricultural Product Support Project" this year to promote the health of pregnant women and expand the consumption of eco-friendly agricultural products.
Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs did not include this project, which was conducted as a pilot project for three years from 2020 to 2022, in the government budget this year. Despite the suspension of the national project, Gyeonggi Province is the only metropolitan local government nationwide to carry out the pregnant women eco-friendly agricultural product support project using its own budget.
The support targets are pregnant women or mothers within one year after childbirth who reside in the 31 cities and counties. The province will select 20,000 people through a lottery.
Pregnant women who wish to participate can apply for the "Pregnant Women Eco-Friendly Agricultural Product Support Project" by entering the "Pregnant Women Support Management System" with supporting documents such as a birth certificate or pregnancy confirmation.
If selected as a beneficiary, each person can receive eco-friendly agricultural products worth a total of 480,000 KRW by paying a 20% co-payment, once to four times per month.
Kim Chung-beom, Director of the Agricultural, Fisheries and Life Sciences Bureau of the province, said, "This project is a producer-consumer win-win project that simultaneously promotes the health of pregnant women and expands the consumption of eco-friendly agricultural products, and we hope for the interest and participation of many pregnant women." He added, "We plan to actively strive to provide additional support through supplementary budgets for the portion not covered by the national project."
