Yuseonghun, Geumcheon District Mayor, Visits Vulnerable Groups Ahead of Seollal On the 16th, Yuseonghun, the mayor of Geumcheon District, visited elderly people in vulnerable groups to check on their well-being and exchange New Year's greetings.

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yuseong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon District, visited elderly people living alone on the 16th to check on the vulnerable groups who are easily neglected during the holidays.


Mayor Yuseong-hoon of Geumcheon District plans to visit vulnerable residents from the 16th to the 20th, a five-day period during the Lunar New Year, to check on their well-being and share New Year's greetings.


Geumcheon District will strengthen its ‘Customized Support for Marginalized Groups’ plan to accompany the vulnerable warmly this Lunar New Year.


Additional holiday consolation funds will be provided to basic livelihood security households and low-income single-parent families, and the winter support fund, previously given to near-poverty residents, will be expanded to include legally recognized single-parent families. The target for special holiday meal support for low-income middle-aged single-person households will also be expanded to create a warm holiday atmosphere shared with neighbors.


Mayor Yuseong-hoon of Geumcheon District said, “This year, we will expand welfare policies unique to Geumcheon to realize ‘welfare for the vulnerable’ that takes care of socially disadvantaged people.”

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, Welcomes the New Year with ‘Warm Companionship with the Elderly’



On the afternoon of the 16th, Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, visited a senior center in Yeongdeungpo-bon-dong to greet the elderly and exchange New Year's wishes.


The New Year event ‘Warm Companionship with the Elderly’ breaks away from the traditional neighborhood New Year's greeting meetings and serves as a place for meeting and communication. Starting with Yeongdeungpo-bon-dong on January 16th, Mayor Choi plans to visit 169 senior centers in the district until February.


On this day, Mayor Choi carefully inspected the senior center from the perspective of the elderly, checking for any inconveniences in facility use and attentively listening to the vivid voices from the field.


Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “We will take even more meticulous care of elderly welfare so that seniors can enjoy comfortable rest and a vibrant old age at the senior centers,” adding, “We will create a warm Yeongdeungpo that supports and empowers the elderly.”

Visits 14 traditional markets from the 16th to the 19th starting with Cheongnyangni Fish Market to encourage merchants



Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, visited traditional markets including Gyeongdong Market on the 16th to communicate with market merchants and residents in celebration of the nation’s major holiday, Lunar New Year.


This visit was scheduled before the Lunar New Year holiday, considering the busy market atmosphere. Starting at 7 a.m. on the 16th at Cheongnyangni Fish Market, Mayor Lee sequentially visited Gyeongdong Market, Cheongnyangni Traditional Market, and Jeonnong Rotary Market, greeting residents preparing for the holiday and encouraging merchants while wishing for a prosperous holiday season.


During this visit, Mayor Lee had many conversations with market merchants facing difficulties due to the economic downturn and decreased customers, and listened attentively to requests related to market facility modernization projects and revitalization of traditional markets.


Mayor Lee plans to visit five markets including Gyeongdong Gwangseong Shopping Center on the 17th, two markets including Dapsimni Hyundai Market on the 18th, and three markets including Cheongnyangni Fruit and Vegetable Market on the 19th to communicate with residents and merchants.


Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, “To revitalize traditional markets, solving the parking lot issue is paramount,” adding, “We will promptly promote the construction of underground parking lots within traditional markets to improve accessibility and resolve traffic inconveniences, thereby securing the competitiveness of traditional markets.”
