[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Fire Department held a meeting to disclose this year's top 10 major policies to the residents and gather their opinions.
The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 16th that on the afternoon of the 13th, it held the 'So·Ba·Si Opportunity Safety 119 Forum' for 119 minutes in the video conference room on the 6th floor of the headquarters building in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon.
So·Ba·Si is an abbreviation for 'Citizens' Thoughts on Gyeonggi Fire Services.' Seventeen residents from various sectors, including the elderly, disabled, foreigners, medical personnel, small business owners, market merchants, housewives, and youth, participated in the forum.
Heo Jeong-hoe (84), who attended as a representative of the residents, suggested, "Practical education on how to use fire-fighting equipment and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is necessary," and requested, "Please expand fire evacuation drills at senior welfare centers."
University student Han Gyeore (22) added, "Since the general public is not well aware of how to use automated external defibrillators, please provide education not only on CPR but also on the use of this device."
Jang Se-hwan (27), a logistics warehouse official in the Yongin area, urged, "Gyeonggi-do has the most logistics warehouses nationwide, so please regularly provide guidance and education on revised laws to warehouse personnel to prevent damages caused by lack of awareness of the system."
Kim Hyun-deok (62), president of the Korean Gomduri Volunteer Association, a volunteer group for the disabled, requested, "Please promote the registration of disabled residents in Gyeonggi-do for the 119 Safety Call service," and asked for "active and extensive support from the fire department for convenience in the daily lives of the disabled."
The Fire and Disaster Headquarters revealed to the residents' representatives the achievements of the Gyeonggi-do Fire Department last year, including the distribution of fire safety equipment for vulnerable households, possession of the largest number of experience facilities nationwide, and expansion of experiential safety education for residents, as well as the direction of this year's top 10 major policies.
Cho Sun-ho, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, said, "This is the first time to hold a forum with residents before implementing new fire policies in the new year and to reflect residents' opinions in advance," and promised, "After analyzing the opinions received from residents, we will incorporate them into the top 10 major policies and implement fire safety policies that residents can truly feel."
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi-do Fire Department confirmed this year's top 10 major policies as follows: ▲Entering the world's TOP 10 countries in fire safety relative to population ▲Achieving a 9% spontaneous circulation recovery rate for cardiac arrest patients ▲Maintaining first grade in regional safety index for fire sector ▲Reducing industrial facility fire deaths by 6% ▲Distributing CPR training to more than 10% of residents ▲Strengthening customized disaster response systems for vulnerable factors ▲Promoting the Warm Companion Gyeonggi 119 Project ▲Achieving 92% distribution of fire safety equipment for vulnerable households ▲Registering more than 20,000 new members for the 119 Safety Call ▲Operating specialized volunteer fire brigades for elderly living alone and disabled persons.
