The Apple TV+ series 'Pachinko' won a trophy at the Critics Choice Awards.
On the 16th (Korean time), at the 28th Critics Choice Awards held at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles (LA), USA, 'Pachinko' won the Best Foreign Language Drama award. It triumphed over Netflix's '1899', 'Birgitte Nyborg' and 'Cleo' (Germany), HBO Max's '¡Garcia!' (Spain), HBO's 'My Brilliant Friend' (Italy), Movie's 'The Kingdom Exodus' (Denmark), Apple TV+'s 'Tehran' (Israel), and ENA drama 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' (Korea).
'Pachinko' is an 8-episode series released on Apple TV+ in the United States in March last year. Based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Korean-American author Min Jin Lee, it depicts the turbulent lives of four generations of Korean-Japanese from the 1910s to the 1980s, receiving critical acclaim. Actress Youn Yuh-jung played Sunja, and Kim Min-ha portrayed her younger self.
With this, Korean-related works have won awards at the Critics Choice Awards for three consecutive years, following the 2021 film 'Minari' (directed by Lee Isaac Chung) and the 2022 Netflix series 'Squid Game'.
The Critics Choice Awards is an awards ceremony hosted by the Critics Choice Association (CCA), a US-Canada broadcasting and film critics organization established in 1996, and is considered one of the largest awards ceremonies in North America alongside the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Awards are given in TV and film categories.
On this day, director Park Chan-wook's 'Decision to Leave' was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film but did not win.
