Gift Sets Under 30,000 Won Account for 60%... Up 10 Percentage Points from Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] This year, the 'super budget-friendly' trend is strongly emerging in Lunar New Year gift sales.
Tmon announced on the 16th that an analysis of customer Lunar New Year gift purchase data over the past two weeks showed that sales of 'super budget-friendly' products under 30,000 KRW accounted for 60% of the total. This is a 10 percentage point increase compared to last year's Lunar New Year. Expanding the range to under 50,000 KRW, the share reaches 76%. On the other hand, the proportion of gift sets priced over 100,000 KRW decreased by 5 percentage points to 9%.
Due to prolonged high inflation, it appears that spending on holiday gifts is also being reduced. There is also an analysis that after the endemic phase, with 'in-person Lunar New Year' gatherings naturally increasing the number of family members meeting, the gift cost per person has decreased.
Reflecting this trend, Tmon has expanded the proportion of super budget-friendly gift sets. In the '2023 Tina's Lunar New Year' special exhibition running until the 23rd, more than 40% of the 1,500 gift products are priced under 30,000 KRW.
