[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) has installed and begun full operation of a ‘multipurpose video call system’ at five sections of the ‘Women’s Safe Return Routes’ within the district, creating safer streets from crime while also serving as a district promotion tool.
The newly installed sections are ▲Sinjeong 4-dong ▲Sinwol 2-dong ▲Sinwol 3-dong ▲Sinwol 5-dong ▲Sinwol 7-dong.
In particular, the district focused on women’s safety by adopting a ‘two-way video call emergency bell system’ directly connected to the Integrated Control Center along the Women’s Safe Return Routes.
In case of emergency or urgent situations, the reporter can press the emergency bell button on the video call system box, which connects a video call with control center staff. Compared to the existing voice call method, this allows more direct and accurate communication, as well as assessment of the reporter’s condition and the situation on site, enabling prompt response.
Additionally, the video call system boxes are installed on existing CCTV poles, expected to create a synergistic effect together with real-time recorded CCTV footage.
Furthermore, during normal times, the monitor screens will display promotional videos containing district news and job information, serving as a communication channel for district updates.
The multipurpose video call system was first installed and pilot-operated in December 2021 at four high foot traffic locations: Mok 1-dong, Mok 2-dong, Sinjeong 6-dong, and Sinwol 1-dong. The district plans to expand the system annually by five locations until 2025 to fulfill the 8th mayoral administration’s campaign promises.
Meanwhile, to establish a foundation as an urban integrated control center combining smart services and integrated control, the district is planning to relocate the CCTV Integrated Control Center from the existing Neuldeul Civil Service Center in Sinjeong 3-dong to the Knowledge Industry Center in Mok 5-dong in the second half of this year. With significantly expanded control space, replacement of outdated equipment, and system upgrades, the center will strengthen its role as a data hub and comprehensive urban safety center, emphasizing the creation of a safe city.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “We will actively implement smart safety infrastructure throughout the city to protect residents’ daily lives and realize a safe and happy Yangcheon-gu.”
