Seongbuk-gu Provides Heating Cost Support for Vulnerable Groups Ahead of Seol Holiday

Seongbuk-gu Provides Heating Cost Support for Vulnerable Groups Ahead of Seol Holiday Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu

Throughout the year, residents' donations provide heating expenses of 300,000 to 500,000 KRW to about 160 vulnerable households ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced that it will support heating expenses for vulnerable groups ahead of the holiday.

The district plans to provide heating expenses of 300,000 to 500,000 KRW using 60 million KRW raised through the Sharing Network donations collected throughout the year.

With consecutive cold waves causing electricity usage to reach record highs and public utility fees rising, the winter burden on vulnerable groups is rapidly increasing. Moreover, although the Lunar New Year, the nation's biggest holiday, is approaching, the winter is harsh due to the economic downturn and rising prices.

Accordingly, Seongbuk-gu will select about 160 vulnerable households in crisis, including basic livelihood security recipients, single-parent families, lower-income groups, people with disabilities, and elderly living alone, through the local community centers, and plans to provide heating expenses on the 19th, just before the Lunar New Year holiday.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “I am truly grateful that thanks to many local companies, organizations, and residents who extended their hands of sharing despite the difficult economic situation, we can offer a warm holiday to our marginalized neighbors,” and added, “We will honor the intentions of those who practiced sharing and strive to further promote the culture of sharing.”
