Dongdaemun-gu Volunteer Center Conducts Volunteer Service Sharing 4,500 Handmade Dumplings and Garaetteok on the Morning of the 13th

About 50 Volunteers from 14 Dong Volunteer Camps and 5 Groups Including Young Senior Volunteer Corps Participate

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu Volunteer Center carried out a volunteer activity on the morning of the 13th to make handmade dumplings and deliver them along with garaetteok to vulnerable groups in celebration of Seollal (Lunar New Year).

This volunteer activity is especially meaningful as it resumed after three years of suspension due to COVID-19. To start 2023 with the practice of sharing, about 50 volunteers from 14 dong volunteer camps and 5 groups including the Young Senior Volunteer Corps participated in this sharing activity.

The volunteers made about 4,500 dumplings with sincerity and love, and packaged the handmade dumplings together with garaetteok to personally deliver them to 350 underprivileged households in the district.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu who participated in the volunteer activity that day, said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to join this meaningful event of sharing hearts with neighbors ahead of the holiday,” and added, “I hope prosperity and abundance will fill the homes of the volunteers with beautiful hearts, and we will strive to make Dongdaemun-gu a place that delivers hope to the disadvantaged and marginalized neighbors this year as well.”

Established in 1999, the Dongdaemun-gu Volunteer Center actively supports the activities of volunteer camps and groups operating in the area. The center oversees 14 dong volunteer camps and 205 volunteer organizations that carry out various volunteer activities such as food sharing, environmental cleanup, companionship for the elderly, and talent donation.
