Wando Residents Experience 60mm Refreshing Rain... Energy Felt at Workplaces

Water Storage Rate Slightly Increased, Wando Residents Beaming

[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Amid the severe drought continuing in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, the rain that fell from the afternoon of the 12th to the morning of the 13th brought a sense of vitality to the residents heading to their workplaces.

According to Wando-gun on the 13th, as of 2 p.m., the rainfall amounts in the Wando area were recorded as 63mm in Bogildo, 61.5mm in Geumil, 58.4mm in Gunoe, 51.0mm in Sinjido, 50.5mm in Wando-eup, 49.5mm in Yeoseodo, and 44.5mm in Cheongsando.

In Bogildo, where the most rain was confirmed, the reservoir rate of Buhwangje, the water source, slightly increased from 26.4% the previous day to 28%.

An employee of the Bogil-myeon office said, “We checked the reservoir rate early in the morning and inspected for any blockages in the water channels,” adding, “Due to the severe drought so far, this rain will likely just seep into the ground and not raise the water level of the water source.”

Especially, the welcome rain continued in Soando, Wando, where a ‘2 days water supply, 5 days water cut’ schedule has been in effect since November 1 last year.

Han Ji-young, head of Soan-myeon, Wando, said, “The ground is still very dry, so at least 100mm or more of rain is needed for the water source to flow,” and predicted, “The water cut will likely continue for the time being.”

Soando, which receives 480 tons of daily domestic water supply via water trucks from Nohwado and Wando-eup, is still not expected to see drought relief despite this rain.

The reservoir rate of Mira Reservoir, the water source of Soando, remained at 3.24% as of the 12th.
