Here It's Noisy with 'Jaebeoljip Only Son'... Controversy Over Chinese Gold Spoon Pedestrian Assault

Wanda Group Chairman's Only Son Wang Sicong
Also Faces Controversy Over Extravagance and Womanizing

Wang Sicong (35), the only son of Wang Jianlin, chairman of China's Wanda Group, who is known to possess assets worth 6 billion yuan (approximately 1.1 trillion KRW), is now embroiled in controversy for assaulting a pedestrian. Previously, Wang Sicong faced backlash for repeatedly posting content on social media that appeared to flaunt his wealth.

The Jing'an Public Security Bureau in Shanghai announced that on the 11th at around 4:40 PM, four individuals including a man surnamed Wang were detained on suspicion of collectively assaulting a male pedestrian in front of a high-rise building on Nanjing West Road in Shanghai. This news spread through Chinese platforms such as Weibo, and rumors circulated that the perpetrator named Wang by the police was Wang Sicong.

A witness who claimed to have been at the scene stated on social media, "Four men, including a man believed to be Wang Sicong, were standing on the road when they suddenly began assaulting a pedestrian. They claimed the victim was taking unauthorized photos of them and used violence. Although the victim insisted he was not taking photos, the assault continued for some time."

According to China Times and other sources, Wang Sicong and his group misunderstood a pedestrian as taking photos of them and demanded that he stop. The pedestrian denied taking any photos, but after a verbal altercation, Wang Sicong and his group assaulted him. The victim sustained injuries including a broken nasal bone.

The police stated that Wang Sicong and the others would be subjected to administrative detention for 5 to 7 days and fined 500 yuan (approximately 90,000 KRW) each. However, Wang Sicong and his group filed an administrative appeal against this decision, and the 7-day detention order is currently on hold.

Previously, Wang Sicong stirred controversy by posting photos on social media that seemed to flaunt his wealth. He has also been criticized for his serious womanizing behavior.

Last year, he posted photos of himself ordering a fruit package worth 20,000 yuan (approximately 3.7 million KRW) at a hotel with a famous Chinese influencer in her 20s, which sparked public criticism. In 2016, he also faced backlash for gifting his pet dog 'Coco' eight iPhones and two Apple Watches.

Amid these ongoing controversies, Wang Sicong was removed from the Wanda Group's board of directors last year. Chairman Wang Jianlin himself said, "Wang Sicong's interests are not in (corporate management and such). He dislikes this kind of hardship and finds managing the company difficult."
