This New Year Dialogue follows a report on the achievements of County Governor Gu Bok-gyu's six months in office during the 8th local government term, explains the direction of county administration for 2023, and proceeds in the order of dialogue with residents containing questions or suggestions related to Hwasun County's policies.
The 'New Year Dialogue between Hwasun County Residents and County Governor Gu Bok-gyu' is attended by Ha Seong-dong, chairman of the Hwasun County Council, provincial and county council members from the jurisdictional area, heads of practical departments, heads of local towns and townships, heads of institutions and social organizations, and residents.
Starting from Baek-a Township and Dongbok Township on the 9th, County Governor Gu Bok-gyu smoothly completed the two-day schedule including Iseo Township and Dong Township on the 10th, and continued his communication with residents by visiting Sapyeong Township and Hancheon Township on the 11th.

County Governor Gu Bok-gyu clarified that the ultimate goal of the county administration during the remaining three and a half years of the 8th local government term, which must achieve "Renew Hwasun! Make residents happy!", is to establish a foundation for a small city with a population of 100,000, and urged related officials to focus on dynamic field administration.
He especially stated, "To achieve the goals of the 8th local government administration, Hwasun must become a harmonious community without division," and expressed his ambition, "I will practice serving administration with an empathetic spirit and lead the 8th local government term to success together with the residents."
◆ "A Stay-Type Cultural and Tourism City, 'Namdo Tourism No.1' Hwasun"
Creating tourism belts by region including Hwasuncheon Flower River Road, Iyang Flood Control Reservoir, and Dolmen Park
County Governor Gu Bok-gyu showed special enthusiasm for the culture and tourism sector while emphasizing strengthening software aspects such as the village doctor system and senior citizen center dining table support projects that shone in the past six months' achievements.
The cultural and tourism projects of the 8th local government term are ambitious plans to create a stay-type cultural and tourism city by establishing tourism belts by region, making Hwasun the 'Namdo Tourism No.1' destination.
Along Hwasuncheon flowing through Hwasun-eup, a Flower River Road is being created, an ant hill observatory and a musical fountain are being installed nearby, and Namsan, where the Chrysanthemum Festival is held, is being replanted with flowers and trees to be reorganized as a resting spot throughout all four seasons.
The Neungju area plans to revitalize as a historical and cultural city centered on the Jo Gwang-jo Jeok Ryeo monument, and the Dongbok area plans to restore Yeondun-ri Supjeongi and Kim Satgat historic sites into storytelling tourist spots linked with the Red Cliff.
The Dong Township area, where the mine is scheduled to close, is preparing a TF team to develop a coal mine experience complex tourism complex, planning to revitalize the local economy in crisis by developing tourism complexes such as the cultural tourism complex around Hwansanjeong.
The 1.32 million square meter-scale Iyang Flood Control Reservoir and Dogok and Chunyang Dolmen Parks will also find new vitality.
First, a park golf course with 81 holes will be created on 490,000 square meters within the Iyang Flood Control Reservoir to attract international competitions, and the remaining 820,000 square meters will be appropriately divided into lotus flower fields, reed forests, and buckwheat fields to synergize with the nearby two additional baseball fields and the planned 1.65 million square meter golf course to meet tourism demand.
Also, the Dolmen Park, designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, will create a large-scale 660,000 square meter wildflower complex connected to the canola flower fields in Chunyang Daesin-ri and Dogok Hyosan-ri, starting preparations for a four-season festival to be held from this spring.
Furthermore, the 3.4 km section within Dogok and Chunyang Dolmen Parks will abandon the existing vehicle traffic method and operate a tourist train.
◆ Building a Wealthy Farming Village and Fostering the Companion Animal and Plant Industry

In the New Year Dialogue, County Governor Gu Bok-gyu next emphasized the major points of county administration operation: building a wealthy farming village that earns money and fostering the vaccine and companion animal and plant industries as future food sources.
Hwasun County has selected Shine Muscat, soybeans, peaches, tomatoes, and blueberries as regionally specialized crops and plans to vigorously promote the medicinal herb business.
It also plans to actively grow the companion animal and plant industry by attracting competitions exhibiting orchids, succulents, wildflowers, and bonsai.
In particular, a plan has been prepared to support up to 70% of the cost when youth, return-to-farming residents, and retirees build greenhouses.
