[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 12th, the Gwangju Western Fire Station announced a request to strengthen evacuation safety management in large underground spaces such as high-rise buildings, apartments, large retail facilities, and logistics warehouses.
Following the tragic fire in the underground floor of a large retail facility in Daejeon last September, which resulted in seven deaths, the importance of evacuation safety management in large underground spaces has come to the forefront.
Due to the spatial characteristics of underground floors, there are few routes to move to the ground floor, making evacuation difficult and increasing the risk of casualties due to the large amount of smoke and rapid heat spread during a fire.
The main points of evacuation safety management include ▲posting evacuation maps in key locations such as underground parking lots, offices, and waiting rooms ▲posting fire facility layout maps ▲installing pictograms at underground emergency exits ▲installing large evacuation guide lights above (over 1.5m) and below (under 1m) entrances ▲recommending the installation of fire safety facilities (firewalls, smothering extinguishers, etc.) in parking areas with electric charging facilities.
A fire official stated, “If those responsible pay attention to evacuation routes and the posting of evacuation maps, a safer evacuation environment can be established,” and added, “We ask for your cooperation in strengthening evacuation safety management in large underground spaces to protect precious lives.”
