Delay in Myeongmun Elementary School Opening ... Busan Office of Education States Position

Delay in Myeongmun Elementary School Opening ... Busan Office of Education States Position Busan Office of Education.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education held a briefing session for parents on the 11th to explain the delay in the opening of Myeongmun Elementary School.

Myeongmun Elementary School was originally scheduled to be completed on January 29 of this year, but due to last year's construction machinery union equipment replacement protests, ready-mixed concrete transport drivers' strike, and two rounds of Cargo Solidarity strikes, the planned March opening was disrupted and the school will now open in May.

Accordingly, the Office of Education held a briefing session for parents of new students at Myeongwon Elementary School auditorium on the 11th and announced future plans.

To ensure a normal school life without any gaps in the curriculum for new students, the Office of Education plans to spend 330 million KRW from the special education fund reserve to install temporary classrooms in the Ullimmaru space to create a learning environment.

They are also making thorough preparations for normalizing the opening by establishing school commute safety measures, providing differentiated care services for all students, and implementing high-quality and safe direct management meal services.

The police are currently investigating the delay in the opening caused by the illegal strikes of the Cargo Solidarity and will take action based on the results.

On the 12th, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, Busan Superintendent of Education Ha Yun-su, parents, and construction officials will meet at the Myeongmun Elementary School construction site to hold a meeting regarding the difficulties caused by the delay and support measures for students and parents.

At this meeting, the Office of Education requested the preparation of countermeasures such as legal amendments related to illegal strikes in construction work to ensure timely completion by teachers in the future.

An official from the Office of Education said, “We will do our best to open in May so that there will be no further disruptions to the educational activities of new students, transfer students, and parents of Myeongmun Elementary School.”
