'52 Members of the Ruling and Opposition Parties Participate in the "Bipartisan Political Reform Continuous Discussion"
Responding to the Proposal of the "Bipartisan Political Reform Lawmakers' Group"'
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties who participated in the ‘Bipartisan Political Reform Continuous Discussions’ have responded positively to the proposal of the ‘Bipartisan Political Reform Lawmakers’ Group’ suggested by senior lawmakers from both sides, declaring their intention to join. Discussions on bipartisan political reform that transcend party lines are gaining momentum.
On the 12th, 52 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties who had been conducting the ‘Bipartisan Political Reform Continuous Discussions’ announced their decision to join the ‘Bipartisan Political Reform Lawmakers’ Group’ proposed by senior lawmakers from both sides.
In a statement released that day, they said, "Senior lawmakers from both sides held a press conference on the 9th and proposed the ‘Bipartisan Political Reform Lawmakers’ Group,’" adding, "This aligns exactly with the views of the 52 lawmakers from both sides who have led the ‘Bipartisan Political Reform Continuous Discussions’ over a total of nine sessions since last September."
Members of the Cross-Party Political Reform Group held a press conference on the 9th at the National Assembly regarding the election system reform plan. Attending the event were Rep. They continued, "In the new year, we must relinquish the winner-takes-all vested interests and present new politics to the people," emphasizing, "We must gather diverse democratic public opinions to reform the election law within the legal deadline and achieve genuine political reform that transcends the interests of both ruling and opposition parties to create the interests of the Republic of Korea and its people."
Earlier, nine senior lawmakers from both sides, including Kim Sang-hoon, Lee Jong-bae, Cho Hae-jin, and Lee Yong-ho from the People Power Party, Kim Sang-hee, Jung Sung-ho, Min Hong-chul, and Jeon Hae-cheol from the Democratic Party, and Shim Sang-jung from the Justice Party, proposed the bipartisan political reform lawmakers’ group at a press conference, stating, "We must end outdated politics that divide the people and hinder national development, as well as regressive politics."
