Secured 930.8 billion KRW in external funds including national and city subsidies from July 2018 to 2022
Achieved 57 external awards including the National Local Government Job Awards and the Korea Local Government Management Competition
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) made a great achievement by securing 145.4 billion KRW from the central government, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and other institutions in 2022 alone, focusing all efforts on acquiring external funds necessary for innovative regional development.
This achievement is a valuable result of fully dedicating efforts to attracting external funds by actively responding to external evaluations from central ministries, Seoul city, and public organizations, after establishing and operating an external policy team responsible for public project applications and external evaluations since the launch of the 7th elected term in 2018, achieving excellent results.
From July 2018 to the end of 2022, the external funds secured by the district through public project selections, special grants, and special local taxes amounted to a whopping 930.8 billion KRW over about four years.
Remarkable achievements were also made in public projects. Representative examples include securing 3 billion KRW for the ‘Regional Innovation Startup Activation Support Project,’ 1.2 billion KRW for the ‘Seoul-type New Deal Jobs,’ 30.1 billion KRW for the ‘Demand-tailored Purchased Rental Housing Project,’ and 4.4 billion KRW for the ‘Public Cable Local Government Maintenance Plan.’
Additionally, Gwanak-gu received 57 awards from central ministries, Seoul city, and private organizations, including the Minister of Employment and Labor Award at the National Local Government Job Awards, the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the Korea Local Government Management Competition, and the Prime Minister’s Award for Carbon Neutral Regional Development and Regional Innovation Merit in 2022.
Especially in 2022, despite many difficulties such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic for three years and flood disasters, it is meaningful that all employees and residents overcame the crisis together and achieved great results.
Building on the experience of attracting external funds and remarkable achievements such as awards in various fields, the district plans to continue striving to create policy outcomes that residents can feel through sustainable external policy establishment.
Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, stated, “Securing sufficient external funds is more important than anything else to successfully implement key policies in the 8th elected term. In 2023, we will also focus on creating policy outcomes that residents can feel based on solid finances and strive to build a ‘Together Leading Gwanak-gu’ where everyone is happy.”
Jungnang-gu Announces 2023 Public Contest for Local Government Subsidy Support Projects for Private Organizations
Recruiting participating organizations for the 2023 local government subsidy support projects for private organizations until the 31st
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is publicly recruiting organizations to participate in the 2023 local government subsidy support projects for private organizations until the 31st.
The local government subsidy support project for private organizations aims to foster self-reliant private organizations leading the resolution of community issues, promote participation in district administration, and activate social contribution activities, with a support scale of about 400 million KRW.
The project fields are ▲ ‘Autonomous Administration’ for regional development, job creation, living economy, and support for small business owners ▲ ‘Culture and Welfare’ for cultural leisure life, academic improvement, and welfare for residents such as the elderly, children, and women ▲ ‘Urban, Environment, and Safety’ for resource saving, environmental preservation, and resident safety including crime, traffic, disasters, and accidents.
Eligible applicants are nonprofit corporations or organizations located in Jungnang-gu whose main purpose is public interest activities and who have public interest activity achievements in the past year. However, organizations that are not corporations without representatives or managers, social clubs, similar or duplicate projects of the same organization, organizations supporting specific political parties or elected candidates, and organizations aiming to propagate specific religious doctrines are excluded.
Interested organizations should prepare the application form and required documents and submit them by mail or in person to the department in charge of the project and organization. Application forms and required documents can be downloaded from the Jungnang-gu Office website.
After recruitment, the final support recipients and amounts will be decided and announced following the review by the Local Government Subsidy Deliberation Committee at the end of February. Selected organizations must bear 5% of the allocated subsidy project cost themselves.
The district plans to conduct mid-term inspections around August and September to ensure integrity and project execution capability and will carry out mentoring-focused evaluations to improve the organizations’ project performance. Upon project completion, performance evaluations will also be conducted to ensure efficiency and transparency.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu encouraged participation, saying, “The local government subsidy support project for private organizations is meaningful as it allows residents to directly participate in district administration activities, solve local problems together, and create a better society. We ask for the interest of capable organizations again this year to make Jungnang-gu a better place to live.”
Last year, 41 organizations participated, carrying out 54 projects across 3 fields.
