[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Ahead of the ruling party's leadership election in March, controversy has erupted among the next party leadership candidates over 'Chin-Yoon (pro-Yoon)' and 'Bi-Yoon (anti-Yoon)' factions, while Jeong Jin-seok, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, emphasized the "unity of the party and the president."

On the 10th, Chairman Jeong posted on his social media (SNS), "I attended the New Year's greeting event of the People Power Party Chungnam Provincial Party held in Deoksan-myeon, Yesan, Chungnam. I emphasized that the ruling party, the People Power Party, and the president must always be united as Siamese twins."

He added, "With united strength, let us achieve victory in the 2024 general election and complete the regime change."

Chairman Jeong attended the Chungnam Provincial Party New Year's greeting event held in Yesan, Chungnam, along with Chungnam Governor Kim Tae-heum, and lawmakers Hong Moon-pyo and Lee Myung-soo. In his greeting, he said, "The Democratic Party, which holds a huge number of seats, is not only holding back but breaking the legs of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration," emphasizing, "We must lead next year's general election to a landslide victory and complete the regime change."

Chairman Jeong's remarks drew attention as they came amid the ruling party leadership candidates dividing into pro-Yoon and anti-Yoon factions and engaging in a war of nerves ahead of the leadership election. The 'Chin-Yoon' faction is centered around Kim Jang-yeon-dae (Kim Je-hyun and Jang Je-won), the anti-Yoon faction is led by former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, and the moderate stance is represented by An Yoon-yeon-dae (Ahn Cheol-soo and Yoon Sang-hyun).

On the same day, lawmaker Yoon Sang-hyun posted on his SNS, "The People Power Party leadership race looks like the 'Fellowship of the Ring' chasing the 'One Ring.' However, they are not heroes gathered to fulfill a noble mission but rather 'Gollums' self-destructing out of greed," adding, "They are already bargaining with 'Yoon's heart' that they themselves did not put forward and are distracted by the return of their old lord." This appears to be a criticism targeting the party's Yoon core group (Yoon Seok-yeol's key associates).
