Goheung-gun Successfully Completes 2nd Demonstration Flight of Security Drones in Island Areas

1st Deukryangdo Followed by 2nd Sang-Hwahwa and Ha-Hwahwa Flight Stability Performance Tests

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 10th that it has successfully completed the 2nd demonstration of the integrated operation system development project for island area security drones in the Sang-Hahwado area of Doyang-eup, with the participation of Suncheon National University, Korean Air, Jeonnam Autonomous Police, and local residents.

This project aims to immediately respond to various crimes or emergencies such as distress situations occurring in island areas, swiftly resolving on-site issues by utilizing drones capable of long-duration flights to actively address security demands in island regions.

This demonstration, conducted as the second phase following the Deukryangdo demonstration in October, involved taking off from Nokdong New Port and flying along a route circling Sang-Hahwado, checking flight stability and the proper operation of various systems.

Especially, prior to the demonstration on the morning of the day, research institutions involved in the project reviewed the current progress and performance goals to ensure a high-quality project execution, and gathered opinions from local residents and Jeonnam Autonomous Police regarding drones.

The island area security drone is targeted for development completion by July this year through demonstrations, aiming for on-site commercialization with purposes including ▲crime prevention in island areas ▲search for missing persons ▲prevention of theft in aquaculture farms ▲monitoring of illegal marine waste dumping.

A Goheung-gun official stated, “Goheung is the region with the best drone-related infrastructure nationwide. We will further strengthen related infrastructure and promote various projects such as establishing an unmanned aviation specialized complex and hosting the Drone Expo to reinforce our position as a drone-centered city.”

Goheung-gun is solidifying its position as a ‘drone-centered city, Goheung’ by enabling various drone-related testing, evaluation, and demonstration projects as well as manufacturing and production, including the creation of an unmanned aviation specialized agro-industrial complex, designation as the Goheung K-UAM Grand Challenge testbed, and 5G-based drone-utilized smart farming demonstrations.
