Gwangju Dong-gu Launches Innovation in Traditional Market Services

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 10th that six markets and shopping districts were selected in the ‘2023 Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, securing a total project cost of 500 million KRW.


The selected markets and shopping districts are ▲ Namgwangju Market ▲ Namgwangju Haetteuneun Market ▲ Daein Market ▲ Mudeungsan Shopping Street ▲ Jisan Amusement Park, among others.


Among these, Jisan Amusement Park was selected as a ‘First Step Foundation Market’ and will receive up to approximately 255 million KRW in support over the next year.


Through this, they plan to promote the ‘three major service innovations’ such as convenient payment and settlement, price and origin labeling, hygiene and cleanliness, as well as the ‘two major organizational capacity enhancement projects’ including strengthening merchant organization capabilities, market safety management, and fire prevention, laying the groundwork for future advancement as a cultural tourism market.


Additionally, Namgwangju Market, Namgwangju Haetteuneun Market, Daein Market, Mudeungsan Shopping Street, and Jeonja Street Shopping District were also selected for the ‘Market Management Package Project,’ and are expected to actively engage in revitalizing the local commercial area through joint marketing, merchant education, and market and delivery manager projects.
