Let's Take Care of Both Health and Taste!
If you’re worried about the sudden increase in belly fat from eating a lot during the year-end, New Year, and even the holidays, you’ve come to the right place. You’ve probably experienced countless diets with all sorts of methods after deciding to lose weight every time. When you suddenly change your diet to one meal a day, protein shakes, salads, or chicken breast, your body tends to reject it. It would be great if the results were successful, but it usually means the chances of failure are high. For subscribers of Dringkit like me, who have weak willpower, I’d like to introduce some good ingredients.
The star ingredient is cabbage. Cabbage is rich in vitamins A, B, and C, and also contains U, which is effective for stomach ailments. Moreover, it is high in dietary fiber, which helps promote bowel movements. Don’t forget that constipation is the biggest obstacle in dieting! After removing the outer leaves, cabbage should be soaked in water with vinegar for 1-2 minutes and then rinsed under running water before consumption. Cabbage is mainly used in steamed dishes, salads, and more, but today, we will introduce three delicious recipes. It’s healthy and tasty, so I have a feeling this time I’ll succeed in dieting♡
Cabbage Jeon (Korean Pancake)
Ingredients: 1/4 cabbage, 2 eggs, 3 strips of bacon, 4 tablespoons flour, enoki mushrooms (optional), salt, pepper
Recipe
① Mix cabbage, 2 eggs, 4 tablespoons of flour, and enoki mushrooms cut into bite-sized pieces (optional) evenly.
② Heat olive oil in a frying pan and place the batter in it.
③ Place bacon on top and cook on both sides until done.
You can also use tempura flour or starch instead of regular flour. Just remember not to make it too wet to hold the eggs and vegetable juice. If you want to add nuttiness, add cheese; for texture, add onions; and for a spicy kick, add chopped Cheongyang chili peppers. Since it’s seasoned with salt and pepper, it tastes good on its own, but ketchup or soy sauce also pairs well, so keep that in mind. As you eat, the richness builds up, making you naturally crave beer?such is the charm of cabbage jeon.
Cabbage Tuna Rice Bowl
Ingredients: a handful of cabbage, tuna, rice, oyster sauce
Recipe
① Stir-fry the cabbage in a frying pan.
② When the cabbage starts to wilt, add drained tuna.
③ Add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce and mix well.
④ Serve the cabbage tuna stir-fry over rice to finish.
If laziness takes over and you want a hearty meal with rice instead of ramen, focus here. Although the recipe looks elaborate, it’s really simple: just stir-fry cabbage, tuna, and oyster sauce in a frying pan. Since cabbage releases vegetable juice while cooking, there’s no need to add olive oil. Also, the cabbage wilts quickly, so feel free to add plenty. If you want a spicy flavor, try adding Buldak sauce or Sriracha sauce.
Egg Toast
Ingredients: a handful of cabbage, 2 eggs, 2 slices of bread, margarine (or butter), ketchup, sugar (optional)
Recipe
① Mix cabbage and 2 eggs together.
② Grill the bread slices on both sides with margarine (or butter) in a frying pan.
③ Lightly coat the frying pan with olive oil and cook the mixture from step ① on both sides until golden brown.
④ Place the cooked cabbage and egg mixture between the bread slices.
⑤ Add ketchup and sugar according to your taste to finish.
This recipe is great to make when you’re craving street toast. You can also upgrade it to a premium toast by adding sliced ham, cheese, or bacon according to your preference. You might wonder if just one toast can fill you up, but thanks to the cabbage and eggs, it’s quite satisfying. Especially if you dislike the smell or taste of cabbage, the sweetness of ketchup and sugar can help mask it. You’ll experience a flavor that never gets boring no matter how much you eat!
