'The Glory' Popular in Thailand
Reports of School Violence Continue

Recently, as the popularity of 'The Glory' has risen in Thailand, posts exposing school violence have been continuously appearing on social networking services (SNS) such as Twitter under the hashtag 'The Glory Thai'.


According to local Thai media including TNN on the 9th (local time), since the release of 'The Glory' on the 30th of last month, stories and eyewitness accounts of school violence have been flooding online in Thailand. In particular, victims have shared videos of school violence and messenger conversations on Twitter, revealing that they "went through difficult times during their school days."

In this process, a well-known local actor admitted to allegations of school violence and apologized. Omphawat (23), who appeared in the Thai remake of the movie 'Bungee Jumping of Their Own' titled 'Hamkke Ga', posted a lengthy apology on Twitter on the 8th, saying, "I was really a prankster when I was young" and "I played pranks a few times without intending to hurt anyone." Previously, he was embroiled in controversy over bullying a student with autism during middle school.


Omphawat stated, "The incident happened at the middle school I attended. After bullying a friend, I was warned by a teacher. I was also physically punished with a stick, and my parents were called to the school." He added, "My parents and I apologized to the victim. This incident taught me a costly lesson."


He continued, "The victim probably still carries emotional scars to this day," and said, "I am sorry. I will feel guilty for the rest of my life. I will never forgive myself. I apologize to everyone who was hurt by my childhood pranks."


However, even after his statement, responses such as "Make a proper apology to the victim" and "The victim must have suffered great wounds during childhood" continued to appear.


'The Glory' Craze Continues... Ranked No. 1 in Japan, Taiwan, and Others

Meanwhile, 'The Glory', released on the 30th of last month, tells the story of Moon Dong-eun (played by Song Hye-kyo), a victim who suffered from school violence in her childhood and takes revenge on the perpetrators and bystanders. It gained popularity immediately after release, ranking third in the Netflix non-English TV category.


According to the OTT ranking aggregation site 'FlixPatrol', as of the 9th, 'The Glory' ranked first in Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, and other regions.


In particular, 'The Glory' received attention for being praised by foreign media. The American economic magazine Forbes stated, "Watching the first episode of 'The Glory' is not easy," emphasizing that it vividly shows how school violence leaves indelible physical and emotional scars. It added, "The work unexpectedly shifts its story direction from horror to melodrama, and then to a murder mystery."
