Yangcheon-gu Conducts Intensive Safety Inspections on Vacant Houses in Reconstruction Areas Ahead of Lunar New Year Holiday

Joint Inspections with Experts on 23 Sites Including Housing Construction Sites and Vacant Houses until the 16th

Yangcheon-gu is conducting intensive joint safety inspections with external experts on housing construction sites and vacant houses in reconstruction areas within the district until January 16 to prevent safety accidents that may occur during the Lunar New Year holiday.

The district is promoting this joint inspection to thoroughly check safety management rules that may become lax during the long holiday and to prevent casualties among construction workers in advance.

In particular, the district has secured effectiveness through a public-private joint inspection team composed of external experts such as architects and structural engineers along with district officials.

The targets of this intensive safety inspection, conducted until the 16th, include four construction sites for reconstruction and street housing maintenance projects in Sinwol-dong and Sinjeong-dong, and 19 vacant houses within the reconstruction area in Sinjeong-dong, totaling 23 sites.

The main inspection items for the four construction sites include ▲ implementation status of safety management plans for the Lunar New Year ▲ establishment of emergency contact systems for emergency measures ▲ inspection of subsidence and safety management around construction sites ▲ presence of facilities to prevent soil runoff on slopes. For the 19 vacant houses in the reconstruction area, inspections include ▲ damage to no-entry facilities and signs of intrusion ▲ environmental pollution caused by illegal dumping of garbage. Common items include focused checks on subsidence and cracks on surrounding roads and adjacent land to assess safety management status.

Minor issues that can be corrected on-site will be addressed immediately. For facilities with serious defects or risks requiring urgent repair or reinforcement, legal safety measures (such as usage restrictions or bans) will be applied, and separate supplementary measures will be prepared to ensure prompt improvement through thorough follow-up management.

Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “The importance of safety has never been greater recently, and to protect residents from disasters and accidents, it always feels insufficient to inspect repeatedly. We will do our utmost to prevent safety accidents by eliminating risk factors in advance through thorough safety inspections.”
