[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong County in Jeonnam announced on the 9th that it will double the honorarium for veterans, the allowance for veterans' families, and the honorary allowance for national merit recipients starting this year.
The honorarium for veterans will be 140,000 KRW per month, and the allowance for veterans' families and the honorary allowance for national merit recipients will each be 100,000 KRW per month.
The recipients include veterans residing in the county, spouses of veterans, war-disabled veterans aged 65 or older, injured veterans, war-deceased veterans, line-of-duty deceased veterans, recipients of military merit, recipients of national merit, patriotic martyrs, independence activists, contributors to the April 19 Revolution, or their families.
To apply for the allowance, applicants should visit the administrative welfare center at their registered address with a veteran ID card or national merit (family) certificate and a copy of their bankbook.
Residents who have been receiving the allowance previously can receive the increased amount without a separate application.
Earlier, the county revised the 'Jangseong County Veterans Support Ordinance' and the 'Jangseong County Ordinance on the Treatment and Support of National Merit Recipients' to increase the allowance, and secured a related budget of 1.233 billion KRW, double that of the previous year.
County Governor Kim Han-jong said, "We are implementing a doubling of the allowance to honor the citizens who sacrificed and contributed to the country," adding, "We will continue to strengthen the treatment of national merit recipients and their families and expand support so they can enjoy a stable life."
