[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Jaseng Medical Foundation announced on the 9th that it held a 'Support Fund Delivery Ceremony for Families of Fallen Heroes' to honor the dedication of the late Police Lieutenant Yu Jae-guk, who died in the line of duty while searching for a jumper in the Han River in 2020, and to help his family become self-reliant.
The support fund delivery ceremony was attended by Shin Min-sik, Chairman of the Social Contribution Committee of Jaseng Medical Foundation (Director of Jamsil Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital), and Park Min-sik, Director of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. At the ceremony, a support fund of 10 million KRW was presented to the family of Lieutenant Yu, a recipient of the 'Heroes Family' care project for families of fallen military and police personnel.
Lieutenant Yu died in February 2020 while searching for a missing person who had jumped into the Han River. He was also the first Korean police officer recognized by the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO, Interpol) as a 'fallen Interpol police officer.'
At the time of Lieutenant Yu’s death, his wife was pregnant but suffered a premature birth due to the shock of the accident, resulting in their child being born with a brain lesion disability. Unable to work while caring for the child, the family struggled financially and found it difficult to cover medical expenses.
Jaseng Medical Foundation decided to provide this support to comfort Lieutenant Yu’s family. The delivered family support fund will be used for the child’s rehabilitation treatment.
Jaseng Medical Foundation strives to honor the achievements of national and independence patriots and to foster a social atmosphere that respects their descendants. This patriotic activity is greatly influenced by Mr. Shin Gwang-ryeol, an independence activist and father of Dr. Shin Jun-sik, founder of Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital. Mr. Shin Gwang-ryeol’s philosophy, which emphasized a lifelong attitude of compassion ('Geuncheuljisim (矜恤之心)') for the less fortunate, serves as the founding ideology of Jaseng Medical Foundation and Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital and is the driving force behind various social contribution activities.
Chairman Shin said, "I hope this support fund will help the family of Lieutenant Yu Jae-guk in the new year of the Year of the Rabbit. Following the spirit of my father, I plan to continue practicing compassion and maintain ongoing interest and efforts to support those who have dedicated themselves to the country."
