The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on the 7th, there were 53,807 new confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Among them, 53,588 were domestic cases and 219 were imported cases, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases to 29,427,834.
This is a decrease of 3,147 cases (5.5%) compared to 56,954 cases the previous day, and a decrease of 9,297 cases (14.7%) compared to 63,104 cases one week ago.
Based on Saturday (cases reported on Friday), the number has decreased for two consecutive weeks.
However, imported cases are on the rise. Since the 3rd, the numbers have increased from 63 → 172 → 194 → 258 → 219. This is interpreted as an effect of the mandatory polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing for arrivals from China.
The number of critically ill patients receiving inpatient treatment is 544, which is 4 fewer than the previous day. The average daily number of critically ill patients over the past week (January 1?7) is 597.
The number of deaths reported in one day was 60, bringing the total cumulative deaths to 32,556. The average daily number of deaths over the past week is 57. The cumulative COVID-19 fatality rate has remained at 0.11% for 124 consecutive days.
