[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, participated in the Hometown Love Donation Program.
On the afternoon of the 6th, Governor Kim visited the NongHyup located at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office and donated funds to four regions: Osan City in the southern part of the province, Guri City in the northern part, his hometown Eumseong-gun in Chungbuk, and his spouse’s hometown Cheonan City in Chungnam. He conveyed a message of hope for balanced regional development and revitalization of the local economy.
Governor Kim said, "All cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province are precious, but I donated to one area each in the south and north. I also donated to my hometown, Eumseong-gun in Chungbuk, and my wife’s hometown, Cheonan City in Chungnam." He added, "My wife, whose hometown is Chungnam, spent her elementary, middle, and high school years in Cheonan."
He continued, "The Hometown Love Donation Program is a good system that can foster a healthy donation culture, reduce financial disparities between regions, and establish a foundation for revitalizing the local economy. I ask many people to participate in donations."
The Hometown Love Donation Program allows individuals to donate to local governments other than their place of residence. The local governments use the donated funds to create a Hometown Love Fund, which can be used to support vulnerable groups, youth support, and improve residents' welfare. Individuals can donate up to 5 million KRW annually. Donors can receive thank-you gifts such as local specialties within 30% of the donation amount. Additionally, donations under 100,000 KRW are fully tax-deductible, and for the excess amount, a 16.5% deduction is available.
Donations and thank-you gift selections can be applied for at once through the Hometown Love Connection website. For residents with low online accessibility, donations can also be accepted at NongHyup branches nationwide.
