Almost Fainted Opening Delivery... A Live Mouse Jumped Out

Company Side "Don't Know English" Embarrassed
"Box Hole Drilled for Handle Use
Possibility It Entered After Delivery Completion"

A live mouse was found inside a box of kimchi ordered through a major e-commerce company, prompting the company to investigate the cause.

According to a YTN report on the 6th, informant A, who lives in Haeundae-gu, Busan, ordered kimchi through a major e-commerce company at the end of last year and discovered a live mouse inside the box. A mouse was seen moving through the holes in the box, which were made for handles.

The kimchi box containing the mouse was placed in front of the door on the 14th floor of an apartment building, inside a cooler box using a Velcro method called 'jjikjjiki.' A said to the media, "(The delivery cooler box) was left behind, and I only took the box. When I put it on the dining table and cut the box with a knife to open the lid, suddenly something 'took a peek' at my face."

Greatly startled by the mouse, A wrapped the box with tape to prevent the mouse from escaping and contacted the customer center. The company retrieved the kimchi box within an hour after being notified. The delivery driver said, "We don't know what happened either," showing confusion.

The company first purchases kimchi from a supplier and then delivers it when orders come in. The company stated, "We are conducting an internal investigation into the cause of the mouse being inside the kimchi box," but added, "It is unlikely that the mouse got in during the manufacturing or delivery process."

They explained that since the product passes through many hands and there is a pest control system in the logistics warehouse, it is unlikely they were unaware of a live mouse inside the box. The company also claimed that since the delivery location is an apartment building over 30 years old, it is possible the mouse entered through gaps in the box after delivery.

A said, "I reported this thinking such incidents should not be repeated," and added that they rejected all compensation offers proposed by the company.
