[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] The Korea Automobile Journalists Association announced on the 6th that the BMW New 7 Series has been selected as the Car of the Month for January 2023.
The Car of the Month is announced after the Association's Car of the Year Selection Committee evaluates new cars and facelift models released during the entire previous month, from the 1st to the end of the month. The evaluation consists of five categories: ▲ interior and exterior design and emotional quality ▲ safety and convenience features ▲ power performance ▲ energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions ▲ marketability and purchase intention.
The Association nominated the Land Rover All New Range Rover Sport, BMW New 7 Series, Jeep All New Grand Cherokee, and Volkswagen New Golf GTI as candidates for the Car of the Month for January.
After fierce competition, the BMW New 7 Series was finally selected as the Car of the Month for January, scoring 38.7 points out of 50. The BMW New 7 Series received a high score of 9.0 out of 10 in the safety and convenience features category. It scored 8.0 points each in interior and exterior design and emotional quality, and power performance categories.
Lee Seung-yong, Chairman of the Korea Automobile Journalists Association, stated, "The BMW New 7 Series is a completely redesigned 7th generation model," adding, "It inherits the unique value of BMW's flagship sedan 7 Series with an overwhelming presence and luxurious exterior emphasizing emotional quality, a new entertainment system, and top-tier convenience and safety features."
The Korea Automobile Journalists Association has been selecting and announcing the Car of the Month since May 2019. The Association announces the Car of the Month selection results through its official website. Vehicles selected as the Car of the Month are exempt from the first and second half evaluations for the 2023 Car of the Year. They are granted a free pass privilege to advance directly to the first round of the final evaluation scheduled for February 2023.
