[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] In Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk, the Agricultural Technology Center has decided to reduce the rental fees of agricultural machinery rental services by 50% until the first half of this year to support local farmers who are struggling due to labor shortages caused by the spread of COVID-19 and economic stagnation from anxiety in the region.

The Agricultural Machinery Rental Service provided benefits worth 123 million KRW to 5,160 farming households last year through rental fee reductions, and will continue to implement a 50% rental fee reduction starting from January this year.

The reduction applies to farmers who are members of the rental service, covering all 475 units of 61 types of machinery rented from the Agricultural Machinery Rental Service from January 1 to June 30, a period of 181 days, with approximately 65 million KRW expected to benefit the farmers.

Jung (age 55) from Jugok-ri, Iwol-myeon said, “I visited the rental service on January 2 to rent a sesame harvester. I received a reduction last year as well, and this year’s 50% rental fee reduction is a great help to farms struggling due to COVID-19.”

Oh Do-chang, the mayor of Yeongyang-gun, said, “I hope this will provide some support to farmers facing difficulties due to COVID-19 and also help the rural economy.”
