[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City will publicly recruit the 14th term of the Busan Metropolitan City Citizen Auditors, who possess both expertise and practical experience, from January 6 to 15 for general citizens to expand citizen participation in city administration and enhance the transparency and fairness of audits.
The Busan Citizen Auditor system was introduced in 1997 to "increase the transparency of audit administration and enhance reliability." Since then, it has expanded opportunities for citizen participation in audit administration and activities to cleanse public office corruption through reporting inconveniences in citizens' daily lives and local issues.
Citizen Auditors serve as unpaid honorary positions and act as audit monitors for two years.
The main roles include ▲ reporting citizen inconveniences and complaints ▲ proposing improvements on administrative issues ▲ reporting misconduct and unfriendly behavior of public officials.
Eligibility to apply includes citizens registered in Busan, those with academic or public service experience, and those with expertise and practical experience in recruitment fields such as civil engineering and architecture, health and welfare, environment and parks, transportation and tax accounting, general administration, etc.

Citizens wishing to participate can download the application form from the Busan City website and apply by mail (Busan City Integrity Officer) or email.
The city plans to announce the selected applicants on the website and notify them individually by January 20 after screening according to its own selection criteria.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, "Citizen Auditors directly participate in city administration to correct inconveniences and unfair matters, enhancing the transparency and efficiency of audits. We ask for your interest and participation." He added, "We will actively collect reports from Citizen Auditors to eliminate blind spots in audit activities and create a trustworthy Busan through open audits."
The 13th term Citizen Auditors currently have 49 active members, and this public recruitment is for new members due to term expiration. Over three years, Citizen Auditors reported a total of 1,693 cases?451 in 2020, 565 in 2021, and 677 in 2022?contributing to city development and resolving citizen inconveniences.
