Korea Railroad Intensifies Crackdown on 'Illegal Ticket Trading' for Lunar New Year Holiday Train Tickets

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) will intensively crack down on illegal transactions of train tickets during the Lunar New Year holiday.

According to Korea Railroad on the 6th, since 2020, KORAIL has established a big data analysis system to prevent illegal trading of train tickets, and is monitoring in real time abnormal purchase histories such as buying a large number of train tickets and then returning them, as well as access logs using macro programs.

Holiday train tickets are also prohibited from being traded at a premium through cooperation between KORAIL and major online secondhand trading sites.

When attempting to trade unfair tickets, they are immediately deleted and usage is restricted, and depending on the case, police investigations are requested as a response.

Along with this, KORAIL is also promoting reporting activation to block unfair transactions by providing train discount coupons to those who report or suspiciously report illegal ticket trading situations.

A KORAIL official said, “To minimize customer damage during the holiday period, we will strengthen monitoring of major online sites and strongly respond to illegal sales, striving to ensure that customers can visit their hometowns with peace of mind during the Lunar New Year holiday.”
