Yoon Sang-hyun "Reform People Power Party with Park Jeong-hui Spirit"... Running for Party Leader

Continued Emphasis on Running in the Capital Area
Promoting Pledges Such as 'Politics of Addition'

[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, declared his candidacy for party leader at the birthplace of former President Park Jeong-hee. At this event, Yoon emphasized former President Park's 'revolution' and advocated for the 'capital region candidacy theory.'

On the afternoon of the 5th, Yoon held a press conference announcing his candidacy for party leader at the birthplace of former President Park in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, stating, "I intend to awaken the innovative spirit of Park Jeong-hee and reform the chronic and pathological DNA of the People Power Party."

In particular, Yoon appealed to create a People Power Party that can win not only in Yeongnam but also in the 'capital region.' Having served four terms in Incheon, Yoon has continuously promoted the idea of a party leader candidate running in the capital region. He said, "The current number of People Power Party seats in the capital region is embarrassingly low. In the last general election, we won only 17 out of 121 seats in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon," adding, "In short, our party has now become the Yeongnam branch of the United Liberal Democrats."

He continued, "The battle between the People Power Party and the Democratic Party has descended to the Nakdong River front," and emphasized, "Let's advance to the capital region with Yoon Sang-hyun, who is skilled in capital region battles, and the spirit of Park Jeong-hee. I will lead the fight on the front lines."

He added, "Certainly, the heart of our People Power Party is Yeongnam and conservatism," but also said, "However, the fight is carried out by the hands and feet belonging to the capital region. Victory or defeat is decided in the capital region."

Yoon proposed pledges such as 'politics of addition' and 'transformation into an ideological party.' He said, "The subtractive politics, such as the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye and the purging of pro-Park factions during candidate nominations, have ruined South Korea and our entire party," and added, "We must create a one team through politics of addition by recognizing the existence of the opponent and promoting coexistence and harmony."

He also pledged to create a 'party where members are the owners.' To this end, he introduced the 'party member recall system,' allowing party members to summon local district lawmakers or party committee chairs at any time. Yoon explained, "If there is any misconduct in the party committees or the central party, we will establish a representative direct hotline where party members can immediately report, and create institutional safeguards to reflect party members' opinions during candidate nominations."

Before the launch event, Yoon paid respects at the memorial hall at former President Park's birthplace. In the guestbook, he wrote, "Inheriting the spirit of President Park Jeong-hee, I will surely bring about innovation in our People Power Party."
