[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Volkswagen will unveil the brand's first pure electric sedan, the ID.7 camouflaged model, at the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition CES 2023.

The newly revealed ID.7, like other ID. models, is based on the MEB platform dedicated to electric vehicles. It features a short overhang and a long 2.97m wheelbase, providing advantages in interior space and effectively embodying the characteristics of a luxury sedan.

To enhance user experience, it comes standard with innovative technologies such as ▲a new concept display ▲augmented reality head-up display ▲15-inch screen ▲a new air conditioning control integrated into the infotainment system's first stage ▲and a touch slider equipped with lighting effects.

The ID.7 offers various features including a new air conditioning system. Through the smart key, it can detect when the driver is approaching the vehicle. The driver can pre-operate the air conditioner or heater before entering the car. The newly designed “Smart Air Vent” adjusts the flow of indoor air and actively works to disperse air as quickly as possible throughout the spacious interior. For special requests, it can also be activated via voice commands.

The ID.7 is the sixth model in the ID. family following the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.6 (China-exclusive model), and ID. Buzz (ID. BUZZ), and is expected to be Volkswagen's second global strategic model applying the MEB platform after the ID.4.

The ID.7 is planned to be launched in the European, Chinese, and North American markets, with the European market model produced at Volkswagen's Emden plant in Germany. The ID.7 will be the second MEB platform-based model produced at the Emden plant following the ID.4.

Thomas Sch?fer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, said, “Through the ID.7, we have been able to expand Volkswagen's pure electric vehicle lineup into the upper segment. This new electric sedan will offer top-level technology and quality.” He added, “The ID.7 is one of the 10 pure electric models Volkswagen will launch by 2026, and our goal is to present tailored products to customers in every segment.”
