[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will provide up to 3.5 million KRW in support to companies affected by last year's Cargo Solidarity strike.

On the 5th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will recruit target companies for the '2023 1st Gyeonggi Province Export Companies Logistics Cost Support' project, which supports logistics costs for export companies in the province, including those affected by the Cargo Solidarity strike, from the 9th to the 13th of this month.

The export logistics cost support project began last July with the launch of the 8th local government administration, when Gyeonggi Province urgently injected 600 million KRW in contingency funds as an emergency economic response, receiving positive feedback from small and medium export companies.

The province plans to provide export logistics cost support four times this year, once each quarter.

The support targets are small and medium enterprises headquartered or with factories in Gyeonggi Province whose export amount was 20 million USD or less last year. The province will select supported companies through eligibility screening.

This year, the province decided to reflect companies' opinions as much as possible by supporting up to 70% of logistics costs, with a maximum support amount of 3 million KRW. However, to support those affected by the Cargo Solidarity strike, the maximum support amount was increased to 3.5 million KRW for the first round only.

Companies wishing to participate can apply through the 'Gyeonggi Export Support Project Integrated Management System.'

Lee Hee-jun, Director of the Economic Investment Office of the province, emphasized, "We believe this support will provide practical help to small and medium export companies in the province that suffered difficulties due to the Cargo Solidarity strike," adding, "We will continue to reflect companies' opinions so that the logistics cost support project can contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of export companies."
