Gwangju Police to Conduct Intensive Drunk Driving Crackdown Until the 31st

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Police Agency announced on the 4th that it has been conducting intensive crackdowns on drunk driving from December 19 last year until the 31st of this month.

The police are mobilizing all available personnel, including traffic police, undercover patrol teams, motorcycle police, and riot police, to strongly respond to drunk driving traffic accidents.

They are conducting continuous crackdowns by moving around without distinction between main roads and side streets during daytime as well as nighttime and late-night hours, focusing on areas with frequent drunk driving such as entertainment districts and restaurant areas.

They are keeping a close watch not only on passenger cars but also on commercial vehicles such as taxis, buses, and trucks, as well as two-wheelers and PMs (Personal Mobility devices).

Since traffic accidents caused by driving under the influence of hangovers continue to occur, random crackdowns are also being conducted considering the traffic situation during commuting hours.

A Gwangju Police Agency official emphasized, "We will continue strict crackdowns in preparation for an increase in drunk driving due to various New Year gatherings at the beginning of the year."

In particular, they urged, "People must recognize that drunk driving is a serious crime that takes away not only their own precious lives and property but also those of others."

Meanwhile, the number of drunk driving cases detected in the region was counted at 109 from December 26 to the 2nd of this month. The daily average was 12.5 cases last year, which increased to 13.6 cases during the year-end and New Year period.
